Adventure Week Term 4

Last week we had adventure week. It was when every day we had a fun thing to do, like  flip out, cooking, town trips and lots of other fun things.

Monday - I made kites. It was kind of boring but at least it was better than work. for the rest of the day we had computer tasks to finish.

Tuesday - I wasn't at school because I broke my wrist. If I was at school I would have gone on town trip.

Wednesday - I did cooking, we made caramel fudge and choc chip cookies. The cookies were a bit burned but that is OK. The fudge was caramel and white chocolate but no one liked the chocolate idea so we made it without the chocolate. We thought it would turn out fine but it was way too sticky, so that was sad.

Thursday -  We went to Jellie park. I couldn't swim because of my arm. I really wanted to swim because I have never been there before, also the hydro-slide looked really fun.

Friday - It was fun day. There were lots of fun activities like cycle mania and ten pin bowling. I like cycle mania the most because of the 2 or more seating bikes.

Term 4 Christmas Dico

This term me a some of my friends organized and ran a Christmas themed disco. It was stressful at times but we would work it out. We made it so we would give the little kids forms that they would pre order food with. We planned out that we would sell lolly bags, juice and glow bracelets. I think our disco went very well and the little kids enjoyed it so that made me happy.

Truck Colors In Maori

For Maori language week our literacy was based on Maori. We had to do a digital mihi and a poem or story.  I made the story. I didn't know what to do it about so it thought cats or trucks. The hardest part was the translating and remembering my colors in Maori

Using Tessellation Creator

Today in math we used tessellation creator. I made a few designs but this one was my favorite. This one looks like a tile floor pattern. I also made a honeycomb looking image and a few others.

Science Reflection.

This term we started our new science programme. We have had to plan a whole science experiment, and when we have wrote out the instructions we can do the experiment. In my group we have me, Cayden and Matthew. It only took us a couple of days to plan it because we really wanted to do the experiment so we tried to do our work fast. We had to make an infographic to show our work in photos.

last week after technology we ate our lunch and then we started our experiment. We wanted to make hot ice. so we got our stuff and we put 4 Tablespoons of baking soda into a pot and then add 4 cups of white vinegar into a pot slowly. we had to have it on half heat for an hour. It felt like it took days for it to be done. The instructions we read said to take it off the heat when its boiled down to 3/4 of a cup or less. The dreaded hour was over and it looked like less than a cup so we put the stuff in a measuring cup but our calculations were wrong. There was 2 cups left so we kind of failed because it probably wouldn't work if we put it back on the heat. We put it in the fridge until it cooled so we can try it out. We tried to make the ice tower like on the photos and it didn't work so we were so angry.

Now we can try to do another experiment so we wanted to try it again. We realized what we did wrong so we can try to prevent it from happening again. We had the heat too high and we didn't leave it long enough.

Math Reflection

For math today we worked on using a drawing compass. First we practiced drawing circles. Then the teacher gave us a task to draw a flower with it. The flower had petals and they were perfect. We first had to draw the circle then we drew half circles in the middle then keep doing that on the ends of the half circles. I tried to draw one but it was really hard. But after I got the hang of it. The teacher gave us a sheet of paper and we had to follow the instructions and if you did it right it would come out with a flower. There was also a task that you had to copy into your book then it came up with a cool design. It took me a really long time to get the  hang of using the compass
because I had never heard of one them before or used one. It was
really cool to use to get a perfect circle.
                                     

Careers Expo.

For the past 9 weeks we have been working on careers. For my career i want to be an Architect. We did a 78 question quiz to narrow down our career so eventually it would be one. We had to make something to show the year 6s. It could be anything with information to show them and something that would catch their attention. My strength organizer helped me by being organized for the expo and always having my work ready. Future thinker helped me by thinking about what would interest the people and what it would be like at the expo. Me and Matt made word finds to hand out at the expo so people could also have something to do in their spare time. Mine had words related to architect. Matt's had words related to Psychiatrist. Sharon made 20 copies of each of ours so we could hand lots of them out.

When all of the year 6s came in there were lots more of them than i thought there would be. When the first people came over I showed them my slide show and the word finds. I was very surprised, they took one. When the expo was finished I looked at the pile of word finds and they had all gone. I was so happy because i didn't know what I would have done if there were some left.

Week 7/8 Reflection.

For week 7 we have been doing lots of careers work. For mine I have been working on my slide show. I have had to add more writing on some of the information. I also made a word find for when the year 6's come in for our careers expo. It is all about architect and it has words that are related to an architect. I also made better backgrounds for the slides to make them more interesting.


For Milo's we have made ours about languages. Our main language is Italian because we find that language most interesting. We might end up changing the language to a different one because the teacher wants us to plan a trip but there are no Italian places in Christchurch. I thought that we could get an Italian teacher to come in and teach the class Italian. We might do Chinese or Japanese because there would be a lot of Chinese places in Christchurch.


For our rotation task with Nogo we had to make a video introducing our self in the language we are working most on. We also worked on our slide show making it more interesting. For drama we played look down look up and we played fortunately unfortunately. After all of that we did a thing called readers theater where we have to do a play thing. for Sharon's task we had to do availll. It is when we watch a movie and when someone says a word like your you have to write down the word they said after it. We were watching tintin the secret of the unicorn. We don`t watch the whole movie only about 20-30 minutes of it.

Week 5 Reflection

For week 5 tech we do cooking first. We made blueberry muffins. We have made apple and cinnamon before but these sounded better. First we had to watch the teacher do it and then she said we need to copy what she did. After we watched her we needed to get our stuff. When we got the plates, bowls and cutlery we had to get the ingredients. we had to put flour, baking powder and sugar in a bowl. we mixed it a bit and then we had to get the eggs and milk into a bowl. whisk it and then add blueberries. we added the liquids into the other bowl and slowly stirred it. You are not supposed to mix it a lot so we only had to make it just stirred in. We put them in the oven so we had to do the dishes while they baked. When they were out mine actually looked good. I was surprised because last time we made them I thought mine were too thick.

Now for our second task is electronics. I am making a target game to shoot Nerf darts at. I have made a circuit board because when you hit the middle it will make a noise. This time I had to print out a picture to put on my board. Mine is one of Bart Simpson because my brother likes The Simpsons.

Christchurch Airport trip.

For our Milos we wanted to learn about planes and Christchurch Airport. But we also wanted to go to the airport. So me and Matt work all of term 1 and part of term 2 e-mailing the airport and Air New Zealand trying to plan the trip.

On Tuesday the 14th of may me Matt and some other people went on a trip to the Airport. When we got out of the van at the hangar it felt so weird thinking that I will be going in there. We went inside and Gary Mills (the man who we e-mailed) was waiting for us. He told us about what we would have to do in an emergency and he told us to put on helmets and Hi-Vis jackets. We walked out of reception and into the tool shop. Gary talked to us about the past of the hangar and about how to become a pilot.

 After that we walked into the main part. It was so cool looking up and seeing the tails of plane and seeing them inside. Gary talked about the planes and how they can be in their for 2-6 weeks usually and people work at night because that´s when most planes are there. We went around the desks and then we went over to the front. There was a Hercules getting towed around by one of the Airport trucks. Gary talked to us about the A320 but then he said that we can go inside it. I was exited but it was really cool seeing where the pilot sits and the seats look really comfy. It would be really hard to remember all of the switches do and when to press them. We got to sit in the economy seats but we couldn´t use the screen.

We walked around a bit more and then we got a photo out the font of  a A320 neo. The new ones have WI- FI satellite dishes on them. Gary asked us if we wanted to go in the A320 neo and we said yes so he called someone and asked if we can go in it, but we needed to wait because they needed to turn the power on so we can see. When the power was on we got to go inside but it was way different to the normal A320 because it had 3 screens in the middle and then all of the switches. They had only had the Neo for a couple of weeks. After we left the plane we walked around and Gary told us about the virgin Australia 737 and looked at it.

 After that we walked into the welding room and then went into the parts painting room. When we left that area we went into the computer room and he told us about how they design new parts for planes. He also told us about how long some of the people have been there and how they sometimes move around. After we left that area we went back into reception and he gave us a cup and told us to fill it up with lollies and he gave us a sticker chart will all of the planes in their fleet.

Rotation task.

This morning we did a rotation task instead of literacy. First I was in a group learning Te Reo. We were practicing making conversations with people.

In the second group we did drama lessons to build confidence while speaking in front of others. After that we had to draw a face and write next to it what an actor needs to be good at their job.

After break we watched part of the movie holes. After every time they said my, we would write down the word they said after it. We needed to try and beat the most amount of words  someone has found. I found 21 words and Matt found 21 to.

Week 11 Reflection

Literacy

This week we have been making a Pick a path story. I made a pick a path about a random day out. It has taken 2 weeks but i have finished it today!. We made them in literacy for fun because all of the rest of the term we have been working on a presentation about ocean pollution.

Technology

For technology I put my lid on my box and started planning compartments because I want to put my cars in my box, but i need compartments. In foods we made baked bean busters. It was really easy, all you need is a burger bun, baked beans, and cheese. First you get the bun. cut about 1 third of the top off. Smash down the inside. Then you add the beans and sprinkle some cheese on top. put it in the oven  at 180 C for about 10-15 minutes.

Milos

for Milos we have started planning our trip for Christchurch airport. We needed to write questions to ask people. Then we need to write them an E-mail and add the questions so they can transfer us to the right person

Marine Pollution reflection

Creating the document.

For our literacy we had to make something about pollution. At first we had a
doc with all of our work on it. we first  visited a site and got some facts about
marine pollution and put it in our own words. then started putting some links
and pictures in, then we started talking about the ocean cleanup and started
talking about our opinion and how you can make a difference. The easiest
thing was probably finding research about the ocean cleanup. Then put a tun
more facts about marine life THEN WE DECIDED TO PUT EVERYTHING
ON A SLIDE.

Putting our work on a slide

We put most of our work on a slide so we had more room to put our work
and it would be more neat. We started with three slides and had different
parts.we had a page for all the links  We also added in some photos of marine
animals and plastic so we would get better marks. Matthew made the
backgrounds better by putting photos of animals and plastic. It was hard
trying to find websites with different things because it seemed that everything
was the same!.

Finishing our work.

When we put our work on a slide we put the links from the doc on the slide
because we wanted all of our work on it. We put a better background on the
title and changed the title. We posted it to our blogs and we finished the slide
presentation. I don’t think we will start our prototype for our product this term
because we only have 1 week left.

Empathy Digi Tech task

Today for our Digi Tech task we got to go on sumo paint or google drawings. We had to draw a picture or make one out of shapes about one of our school values. Resilience, Integrity, Success or Empathy.

Saving Our Marine Life.

Technology Reflection.

At technology I did woodwork for my first activity. I finished my prototype box
and started planning my real box. For my prototype box i had to fix up some
mistakes i made last week. After i fixed everything up i attached the base to
my prototype, we had to draw around our box, draw where the nails need
to go, then we put them in the base.

After we put the nails in the base we put glue around the bottom of our box and
hammered the nails in to the box. We had to scrape off the glue that had
smudged all over the base.

For my second activity i did cooking. I made a layered crumble in a cup. It had
berries,oats,stewed apples and vanilla yogurt. First we stewed the apples
and let them boil, then we made the crumble mixture and put it in the oven.

When everything had cooked we put the berries at the bottom, the stewed
apples, the crumble mix, the vanilla yogurt, then more apples and yogurt.

Milos Reflection

we have been making a slideshow about airplanes
and the Christchurch airport. We have done 10 facts about
airplanes and Christchurch Airport. We have also done the
landing and takeoff times of the big airplanes that go to
Christchurch Airport. We have also put a link on the
slideshow to flightradar24.

Our next steps are to plan a trip to Christchurch Airport
and add more information to our slide. We want to find out
more about airplanes and Christchurch Airport.

We have learnt how many airplanes are in the sky a once
. the biggest passenger plane is the A380  

. the biggest plane is the Antonov AN 225
