Term 1, 2 ,3 & 4 Reflection

In this piece of writing I will be reflecting the best things and the worst and most embarrassing things about term 1, 2, 3 and 4.

I will be starting with term 1. The best thing that happened to me in term 1 would be the Spencer Park camp. It was awesome because we could share our tent with our friends and we made our own dinner. The worst part of term 1 would be when lock down started because it got boring really quickly and I couldn't see my friends.

Secondly term 2. In term 2 there was 12 weeks I think because the holidays were pushed back because of COVID - 19 so it was a very long term. For term 2 I think coming back to school was a good and bad thing because coming back was good because I could see my friends but its also bad because I was really starting to enjoy it at home all of the time.

Thirdly term 3. I think my favorite thing about term 3 would be sailing. It was really fun because I had never done anything like it before so it was a great experience. The worst thing about term three would be that we were in alert level 2 and I wanted to run a disco but we couldn't so that really annoyed me.

Fourthly I think the best thing about term 4 is the Halloween disco. It was the best thing because we raised lots of money and the little kids had a great time. The worst thing about term 4 would be the year coming to an end because I have lots of great friends that I might never see again.

Jellie Park

Last Friday for our year 8 leavers activity we went to Jellie Park. We did the same thing last year but I had a broken arm so I could not swim, so it was my first time actually swimming there.

At Jellie Park there is only one pool and three hydro slides outside but there is more pools inside and a hydro slide inside but we weren't allowed inside, there is also a cafe that we could buy stuff at so I bought $10 with me but I didn't buy anything because it is really expensive.

The thing I think is the best would be the hydro slides. There is one curvy hydro slide that you can have up to 4 people on, and there is two parallel fast slides. They are really fast and you can race people on them. When you get to the bottom of the slide you skim across the water then smash into the water. There are also 2 diving boards, one of them is 1 metre and another one is 3 metres. I went on both of them and the 3 metre doesn't look very big when you look at it but when you are on the top it feels way bigger than when you are blow it.

When we got in the bus to leave I noticed that I had a slight but of sun burn on the back of my neck but it is way less than I thought I would get.

Maths Tessellations

Today for maths our task was to create tessellations. A tessellation is when lots of small shapes fit inside a big shape. We had to create three so I made mine out of triangles and arrows. I tried to make them out of many shapes like hearts, pentagons and stars.

Food Tech Last Week.

Last week at technology our first session was Foods. We had a choice of what we wanted to make. We could make rice balls or fried rice. Most of the class wanted to make rice balls but I decided to make fried rice. Firstly we had to prepare out veges. We had a choice of capsicum, cucumber, mixed veges and spring onion. I chose mixed veges and spring onion because I though capsicum and cucumber would taste weird in fried rice. After we prepared our veges we had to make the chicken. To marinade the chicken we put dark soy sauce and light soy sauce in it. After the chicken was fully marinaded we cooked the chicken in the frying pan. When the chicken was cooked and the juices ran clear we added the veges, then the rice and then the spring onion. We finished our fried rice before everyone finished the rice balls so we could do our dishes before everyone and we could eat before everyone else.

Tetragonal Star

For Maths today we did shape building with card. The shape I made is a Tetragonal Star. it has 9 faces, 16 edges and 9 vertices. To build the shape we had a sheet of card with the outline of the shape and we had to cut it out, fold it then glue it together.

Maths Shape task

Yesterday for maths we had to look at a shape that the teacher had made and draw all the different views of the angles. We had to draw the view from the left, right, top and front. We also had to recreate the shape with plastic blocks. After we made the shape, some of us had to show what we had done to the class. My group had to show the math group what we had done. We had to show what angles we got and if the class agreed with our angles. We showed the class our angles and showed them how we got them. The class agreed with most of our angles, when we finished another group went up and we had to look at their angles and tell them if we agree with them or not.

5 Reasons Why We Should Use Manners

In this piece of writing I will be showing you why manners

are important and everyone should use them.

My first reason will be that when you use manners

people will feel respected and appreciated because

manners are a way of showing appreciation when

someone does something for you. Also when you

use manners it makes people feel much happier and

it can also make someone's day. For example when the

teachers are angry they appreciate it when children use

manners and are respectful and it can also make them

happier.

Another reason why people should use manners is

because when you use manners people will like you

much more and would not mind being around you, but if

you don't use manners people will not like being around

you because you will sound rude and most other people

don't like rude people. For example in our classroom there

are children who have no manners at all and they have

made no friends this year because everyone knows them

as rude and disrespectful people and don't want to be

their friend.

My third reason is if you use manners and say thank

you people will not hesitate to do stuff for you again but if

you don't say thank you to others they may not want to help

you anymore.

My fourth reason is take the blame when you do something

wrong. If you take the blame the problem will be over with

very quickly but if you blame it on someone else it can get

much worse and the problem will get bigger and bigger than

when it's over with you might notice that later on you will

have no friends.

Another reason to use manners is that when you say hello

to someone it can cheer them up if they are unhappy and

make them say hello to someone else who is unhappy and

cheer them up. It is like a chain reaction.

Math Tangrams

For maths last week we used this new website called Mathigon. In this website there are games and one of them is Tangrams. When you play Tangrams you try to make different shapes with shapes you are given. There are different skill levels of shapes. It is very fun. To make the shapes you slide them up and down and sideways, then you can rotate then and you can flip them. Most pieces have to be rotated or flipped 90 or 180 degrees.,

The Story Of Village Doom.

Everyone in the village Doom is starving. There has not been rain for months and months. Crops will not grow. Water can not be found anywhere. All of the villagers are parched and starving. All they know is that in the Doom mansion there are huge baskets full of fresh fruits and veggies. The villagers are now dying one by one from dehydration and starvation. The villagers want to find a way to assassinate Mr Doom and steal his veg but the only thing stopping them is his henchmen. All the villagers are hungry but the head villager said “we can wait and we can survive '' all of the rest are chanting “kill the Doom, kill the Doom” the head villager does not like that idea so he will not help kill Doom. another day of no food and small amounts of water rolls around and the villagers have had enough. They all like the idea of killing Mr Doom so they do so. They all bunched up and stormed the dooms mansion. The henchmen are killing people with their high quality machine guns but there are not enough henchmen.  The villagers make it over to Mr Doom and he has not got a gun. He is sitting on his gold and chrome throne. One of the villagers used to be a henchman for Mr Doom so he knew where the vault was because that is where the veggies are. Mr Doom had the vault keycard in his pocket so the villagers strangled Mr Doom to death and took the keycard. The villagers made it to the vault with all the fresh fruits and veg. They decided to live in Mr Doom's big mansion that has all the room for all of them.

Imaginator Writing.

As the machine pumps and smokes creating power for the town below. A big thunderous storm comes raging heading right for the imaginator. The whole town is shocked not knowing what to say or to do. The storm makes it's way over to the imaginator, making it strain and not being able to work. The small town below is left without power. In the middle of the night in the deep gloomy darkness. A mysterious flying machine emerges out of the black darkness of the clouds and it is coming their way.

My goals in writing is use bigger and more explaining words to make my writing more interesting to read and to get the reader hooked.

Maths (Monday)

Today for math we did a 4 question math test. The whole test was about figuring out the area, circumference and diameter of different shapes. We had to get more than 18 points and I got that exactly. Lots of people did not so I was quite lucky. The test was hard because we had to do the working of every question to get more points. If you showed the working, used the units of measurement and got the right answer, that is five points.

Maths, Figuring Out The Area Of a Circle

The answer is 153.86 cubic metres(m3)

Maths, How I Found Area.

For the past couple of weeks in math we have been figuring out the area of different shapes. Personally I found it quite easy and interesting. Area is when you figure how many meters the length of a shape is and the width of a shape and multiply them together to get the area. I think it could be very useful for me in the future because I want to be an architect.

Maths (Wednesday)

Today we learned ho to find out the area of a triangle. You have to measure the number of meters form top to bottom then multiply it by half of the meters of the base. The teacher also put a 16 by 16 square around it and we had to find the area of the square. we had to minus the area of the triangle from the area of the square. It was 226sqm We had to figure the cost if it is $16 per square meter of pebbles. I got $3616. Then we had to figure out the labour cost. It is $35.70 and hour and it will take 6.5 hours to complete. The labour cost is 232.05, then we add them together and get $3848.05. After that we subtracted 5% and get $3656.75 as the total cost.

Friday Maths

Today at maths we had to do a test. The test was to see how well we remember finding the perimeter and volume of different shapes. The test only had maybe 12 questions, the test was quite hard but I still understood it. I got one half right and the other half wrong because you had to get the first question right to get the other ones right and I got the first question wrong.

After we finished our test we did a maths question. The question was to see how many foot lengths long the circle in the court is. I figured for me its 13 foot lengths so I had to convert that to metres so that was 3.25m, then I multiply that by pi (3.14). I came up with 10.205 as the circumference.

Maths Week 4

Today in Maths we did some volume problem solving. Nogo put problems on the board and we had to figure them out. The Teacher would draw a square and put how many metres the length, the width and the height is. You have to multiply them together in that order. I found it quite easy and fun to do. Next we had to do a harder one. The length was 11 metres, the width was 16 metres and the height was 1.5 metres. That one was very hard but I figured it out in the end. I got 264m3 and it was correct. Then we had to figure how much the price was if it was $4 for each square metre. I got $1056 and it was correct.

Technology Reflection.

This week in technology my first session was mechatronics. We had to code a robot to move around and drive over dots. There were 5 dots to drive over and I drove over all of them. We had to complete the rest of the work in our books. It did not take long so it was not hard at all.

My next session was sewing. I needed to do one more small thing to my bag but the teacher did it for me. We also had to do a reflection in our book but it was easy. Instead of doing more work we did a challenge. If we one the challenge we would win a block of chocolate. We had to make the best design on a shirt. The design or picture had to be cultural. Mine was a Thai elephant. Lots of people did Maori designs but I wanted to make mine different. I did not win the chocolate but id doesn't matter.

Maths Step Counting and estimating

Today in Maths we learned about measurement and what pacing was. Pacing is when you count every left foot step. At first Nogo measured 50 metres with a measuring tape, then we counted how many paces we took in 50 metres. I took 40 paces. At the end of the measuring tape I had to take another 40 paces to estimate where 100 metres was. I doubled my steps to 80 which means for every left foot step counted it meant that 80 steps = 100metres.
At the end of the tape is 50 metres and you might see someone standing near a pole at the end.

Literacy Poems

For the past few weeks our literacy focus has been around poems. We have had to make 10 poems about anything and it can be any type of poem. My favourite type of poem is triplet poems even though I am not very good at them. Here is a Bio Poem I made about Elon Musk.

Garden To Table

For the past few weeks I have been taking part in the garden to table group. We have been doing many different things. I have planted seeds and put plants from smaller pots into bigger pots. Recently I have been cutting wood so we can make planter boxes.  Before I started sawing wood more often I thought I was not good at it but I am. We have also had to move a wooden bench to another spot so we can have more planter boxes. We have cooked lots of food as well. We have made noodles and bok choy, macaroni bites and peach crumble.

Hatchet Response

So far in Hatchet Brian has build a shelter under a rock overhang. He has looked around the area where
he is living for food and he has drunk water from the lake. He found some berries and ate them but later
that night he threw up and had diarrhoea. He stayed outside a bit then went back to sleep.

The next day he ate some more but less than the day before so he didn't get sick. He did not get sick so
he ate some more. He started to run low on them so he looked for some more berries. He decided to
keep the lake in his sight so he didn't get lost. He saw some berries so he sprinted faster than he ever
has before. He recognised these types of berries and they were raspberries. He grabbed as many as
he could hold. It felt like he had four pounds worth of them. When he was collecting them he turned
around and there was a massive bear standing on it's back legs staring away from. Brian was in shock
so he stood still then ran the other way. He ran back to his cave and ate many of the berries  then went
to sleep.

He woke up to a strange rustling sound. He grabbed his hatchet and threw it that way. The animal came
towards him and stabbed him. He felt severe pain and his leg went numb. He looked at what was in his
leg and there were little needles. He noticed it must have been a porcupine. He pulled them out one by
one with sharp pain going through his leg. He tried to sleep that night but it was hard.

He woke up and noticed that his hatchet had made a little groove in the rocks in his cave when he tried
to throw it at the porcupine. So he threw his hatchet at the cave wall again to try and get sparks. He got
some small ones but they went out quickly. He went outside and got some wood. He threw the hatchet
at the wall and sparks came but they went out. He went outside to get some more wood but this time he
cut it up so it's soft and fluffy and could catch the sparks. He threw the hatchet with all his might and big
sparks and fire. He added more wood to keep it big.

Technology Term 2

This term at Technology I have been in the Mechatronics and Fabrics classes. In Mechatronics we have been learning how to code robots to move and turn. We practised using the Lego Mindstorms App. For last week and today we had to make our robot manoeuvre around obstacles. If they hit the obstacles we would have to restart and change our code. After that we had to make our own maze for the robot to manoeuvre around but I did not finish that.

After break I had Fabrics. In Fabrics we are making a bag. We are making them have a phrase like stop using plastic. My one says recycle don´t waste on it. Today I got my fabric so I can put my phrase on it. I put the recycling symbol on mine and the words. We used stencils for each letter and we put our fabric on top of the recycling symbol and traced around it. Next week we will colour in the symbol and words.

Comparing Fractions

Today in maths we did a fifty question maths worksheet. It was a bit hard but not too hard. I did get confused at times but I got through it. We only marked thirty questions today and I got all of them right. On the worksheet we needed to compare if a fraction was smaller, bigger or equal to another fraction. If the denominator is different we need to multiply them so they turn into the same number. When you multiply the bottom you need to multiply the numerator as well.

Hatchet Novel Response

So far in the book Hatchet Brian has left the airport to visit his dad in Canada. His parents have divorced
over a secret his mum had. Brian's Mum cheated on Brian's Dad so they divorced.

The pilot of the aircraft Brian is in has had a heart attack while flying so Brian has tried to contact the
airport on the microphone of the pilot but it was too fuzzy so he did not know what to do. He tried to keep
the plane in the air until it ran out of fuel. The plane can fly in a straight line by itself so he did not need to
do much. When the plane ran out of fuel he had to search for a lake to land in but there were not many
around him. He finally spotted an L shaped lake to land in so he positioned the plane so he would land
straight line. The plane started to decrease speed and went down lower and lower. The plane was not
high enough to make it to the lake so Brian got very worried. He braced himself for the impact. Then
Boom he hit the trees. The plane went down through the trees and into the lake.

The plane sank down into the water and Brian tried his hardest to get to the surface but he started to
loose his breath. So he pushed harder and harder and made it up. He climbed over to the side of the lake
and leaned on a tree and wondered how he survived. He saw that it was getting late so he went to
sleep. He woke up and realised that he has many aches and pains.

Isolation Day 1&2

For the past few days I have been stuck at home like the rest of New Zealand. The thought of me not being able to go far hasnt reallly got to me yet because I usually dont go far anyway, but four weeks is quite long. I don't know what I will do at home for four weeks because I dont want to spend too long on my Playstation. I have already been on minecraft but I don't think I will go on it again for a few days.

To do my work I have been using our old family laptop. It is older than my brother (he's 7) but works very well. on Thursday Sharon did a video chat with the class to check in and see how they are going  but only 5 other people joined. I thought it was really cool. We have been doing work on Education Perfect. I personally don't really like it because I have so much spelling work and I don't know any of the words but at least I am learning. We also have our Literacy work that I think I need to finish, but todays my last day of work until the holidays. YAY.

A Creepy Day In The Mountains

One afternoon I was hiking around the mountains when I peered around a bush and spotted something.
I was shocked, there's a Ute coming at me at 100 kilometres an hour. I darted away like a deer
getting chased by a hunter. It was coming at me so fast I knew I would die. It appeared to be an
old Toyota Hilux, but there's a gun attached to the roof, RUN I said to myself. I found a corrugated
iron fence and waited for the groaning engine noise to go away. But I see more blinding headlights
coming my way...

HIIT Training 2020.

HIIT Training

Today in fitness we did HIIT training. We did it in the hall doing widths of it each time.
It was sort of hard but also fun because it made me laugh watching my friends puffing
and going the hardest they can. I tried lots of things I had never done before.
We did the duck walk, that was very strange. It's when you go very low on the ground
but staying on your legs and we had to walk the width of the court.
We also did stuff like we would run from one side of the court to the other then do
10 star jumps or 15 crunches. My legs didn't get sore but they went a bit jelly like at
one point.

Snifter Lump Review

Have you tried the new Snifter lumps. Today we tried the new Snifter lumps. I think they are not as good as Pineapple lumps because they are the originals. I reckon the Jaffa lumps
Tasted better when they were out. I don't like them because the mint is too strong to be with chocolate, and they also have a weird hint of candy cane. I would recommend them because they are very interesting and many other people would probably like them.

Technology 2020

On Thursday 13 we had our first sessions of technology for 2020. My 2 sessions were Electronics and Plastics. I had both of them last year but this year we are making harder and bigger things.

In Electronics we started our circuit board for our lamp. Today we did some paper work and looked at some Electronic pieces we will need to use on our circuit board. On our circuit board we had to drill 18 holes in it where the wires will go. After we drilled the holes we put copper tape over it.

For our first session we got to make what ever we wanted with a small bit of plastic. In Plastics we will be making a clock this term for our big project. To make our clock the teacher will laser cut it a way we want it. I made a necklace the shape of a diamond. I used a green piece of plastic. I was going to make a nice curved smooth rectangle but then I thought of a necklace.

I enjoyed Plastics more than Electronics because it is easier and more fun.
